The University Admissions office is a dynamic environment which requires dedicated professionals to engage, excite, and enroll qualified students to the University to help meet enrollment goals. The Manager for Native American and Diversity Recruitment is responsible for representing Northern Arizona University to multiple constituencies, including prospective students, their families, and school/community contacts. The position, in conjunction with the Assistant Director for Diversity Recruitment, oversees the continued development and implementation of Native American and Indigenous student recruitment; maintains and further develops strong relationships with Arizona’s 22 federally recognized tribes, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) schools in Arizona, and other native communities throughout the Western United States. The Manager leads a team of one Student Recruitment Coordinator, Sr. for Diversity Recruitment, focused on serving Native American, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native first year and transfer students, in line with the university’s goal to become the nation’s leading university serving Native Americans. The position is instrumental in connecting the NAU campus community with University Admissions for the purpose of carrying out initiatives related to Native American and Diversity recruitment and retention. The Manager is also responsible for admissions and office-related duties and other projects as assigned. This position is responsible for the following: Supports existing relationships with counselor personnel to help facilitate the recruitment of qualified students to the University. This may include travel to high schools to meet directly with university constituents and students to address their admission and scholarship related questions. Develops new relationships and supports existing relationships with tribal communities, and tribal education offices. This may include visits to the tribal communities and hosting events for tribal education professionals. Develops and maintains a database of counselor personnel associated with Arizona’s 22 federally recognized tribes, BIE schools in Arizona, and other native communities throughout the Western Undergraduate Exchange states for communication campaigns, both physical and digital. Supervises entry level Student Recruitment Coordinator, Sr. to help them develop an understanding of ways to collect and analyze data in their respective recruitment territory or territories. Coordinates and collaborates with on-campus departments and organizations in an effort to support NAU’s strategic goal #3, including but not limited to: the Native American Cultural Center, Office of Indigenous Student Success, Applied Indigenous Studies, Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, etc. Coordinates and collaborates with on-campus departments and organizations in an effort to support NAU’s diversity and inclusion goals, including but not limited to: Indigenous Student Success, Commission on Ethnic Diversity, Hispanic Serving Institute Initiatives, Office of Inclusion: Multicultural & LGBTQIA Student Services, First-Generation Programs, etc. Researches, develops, and facilitates cultural competency training sessions for new Admissions staff, and to help educate and support their work and the work of the University Admissions office. Assists with the leadership of the Recruitment Team and supports the Assistant Directors and Director of University Admissions in the management of the Recruitment Team and their work with prospective Native American, Native Hawaiian, and Alaska Native students and their guests. Serves on the Manager Leadership Team within the University Admissions office by participating in strategic recruitment planning, staffing decisions, and best practices. Provides presentations to campus visitors at on-campus and off-campus events. Works in conjunction with the Events and Orientation Team on the planning and execution of on-campus visit programs as needed, including but not limited to Discover NAU, Explore Honors Day, Indigenous Visit Day, Lumberjack Spirit Day, Multicultural Recruitment Programs, and transfer student programming. Assists with coordinating on campus tours as it pertains to Native and/or diversity recruitment. Interprets university policies and recommends changes to policies and/or procedures. Assists with necessary research to verify residency status, admission status, or status of transfer credit, especially as it applies to ABOR Policy 4-203 C. 8. Reviews additional academic data for the purpose of awarding of scholarships. Assists with the execution of Orientation programming to enroll new students to the University. Provides input and counsel on marketing materials provided by the Enrollment Management Marketing Team as it pertains to Diversity Recruitment. Uses reports through Business Objects, Enterprise Reporting, PeopleSoft, and Salesforce to analyze and report on effectiveness of counselor outreach programming. Evaluates program effectiveness, assesses outcomes, and develops improved programming to achieve goals via surveys and participant feedback. Counsel, guide, and advise prospective students and families in the completion of complex admission and financial aid forms, admission requirements, transfer guidelines, cost of attendance, financial aid programs, and various other student and enrollment related services, programs, and opportunities. Coordinates and collaborates with the Diversity Team to achieve goals for diversity recruitment efforts. Other duties as assigned.
